We do landscape construction!
Did you know that at French Tropical Landscaping, we also complete larger landscaping construction projects, in addition to our landscaping designs. Why do construction projects?
- I wanted to add even more value for our clients
- I wanted to minimise the stress for our clients having to deal with different contractors
- And lastly, but most importantly, I wanted to be able to fully transform your backyard with my unique landscaping designs. You see; landscaping ‘soft scape designs’ are only one part of having a great backyard, to completely transform a backyard you need to marry your ‘hard scapes’, the construction, with your ‘soft scapes’, the planting.
Let me explain…
To further elaborate on my third point from above, I often tell my clients to think of their backyard as food and wine, you marry your food and wine to enhance the taste of each other, the same methodology needs to be applied to your backyard. In order to sit back and enjoy your softscape, you need to have a well-designed hard scape to make the garden fully functional to enjoy with your family and friends. When you leave your garden design to the professionals you’ll be able to completely transform the way you use your outdoor spaces, and we’d love to help you do that to your Brisbane backyard without you needing to lift a finger.
Whilst many people think adding some form of construction to your garden may seem like a ‘too big, too hard’ type of task, it really doesn’t need to be when done correctly. Below I’ve compiled a list of my favourite ideas when considering adding landscaping construction to your Brisbane backyard.
Firstly, I’d like you to take some time to think about your backyard. Close your eyes. And consider what zoning spaces you’d like to use in your landscape. Do you need a space to sit with friends? A quiet area to be alone? A place for the kids to play? Shade coverage? And so the list goes on.
There are so many different things to consider but below are a few structures to get the ball rolling.
As simple as that is, adding a retaining wall could make your uneven backyard, level and provide multiple ‘zones’ to enjoy entertaining with friends. A retaining wall, with machinery, back-filling and turfing can take 1-2 days and this simple solution with transform your backyard.
If you think Pergola and you think about house extensions from the 80’s then think again. Pergola’s can be easily constructed with timber and can create a really unique entertaining area adding to the design elements of your backyard. Combined with decking or pavers at the base, imagine having a 4-post structure in your backyard with roofing enjoying summer BBQs.
Whether it is replacing fencing or adding new fencing, even just painting your fencing, a good fence will lift the impact of your planting giving your garden a well-kept and modern look.
Do you have a pool, but no where to sit? Or does your house have no connection to your backyard? Adding a deck cannot just completely transform your lifestyle, but can also add a lot of value to your house! Living in Brisbane, a deck should be compulsory in every house to enjoy Brisbane’s loved climate.
In order to transform your construction even further take the time to consider exactly what roofing will work best. Do you need to add a bit of extra light with skylights or with a clear-tinted plastic, or do you want to add insulation during the build to keep you that bit cooler in summer. Taking the time to plan this in the design phase will ensure you get the most out of your new space year-round.

Keep cool, and party at night! Take a good design for your backyard and make it great with these professional touches. Adding a well-designed electrical system to enjoy your back yard means you’ll be able to enjoy your garden 24/7. Well, maybe not 24 hours a day, as I don’t think your neighbours would be happy about that!
